As teachers, we often get asked the question, “What does my child need to know going into Grade Primary?” Primary Prep is a program designed specifically for children ages four and five, who are starting Primary in the upcoming school year.

This engaging program allows students to enter Grade Primary feeling confident and ready to build on skills they have learned with us. The program focuses on phonics, phonemic awareness, fine motor skills, and oral language. More specifically, letter recognition, letter sounds, the correct way to hold a pencil and form letters, teaching students how to spell their name, recognition of basic sight words, as well as exploring different parts of books and how to begin reading them.

We also focus on numbers to ten, recognizing what numbers look like in numeric form, and how to count out sets of objects. Students also learn important skills such as practicing turn taking, following rules,
and being responsible for our own belongings.
